The Lowveld Gin Festival 2019
If you love all things gin & tonic related, you won’t want to miss the 2019 Lowveld Gin Festival.
The Lowveld Gin Festival held its inaugural event in 2018 just outside of Nelspruit at Elmswood Estate. The event was the most anticipated on the festival scene since the now annual Innibos Kunstefees.
This year the Gin Festival returns in its second year, set to take place in 27 April 2019. The Festival features some of South Africa’s most exciting local gin distilleries and a few well-known international distillers. Find out everything you need to know in our blog.

A newbie at this year’s Lowveld Gin Festival, Monks Gins are handcrafted and double-distilled in small batches using a hybrid artisanal still called ‘Jennifer’ (named after the owner’s mother.)
Monks Gins feature intensely flavour-forward botanicals, nine of them hand-picked and many endemic to the area. Combined with crystal-clear mountain waters and the result is a rewarding one, featuring ripples of citrus, berries and Cape Buchu.
Black Mountain Gin
Taking inspiration from its surroundings, the Swartberg Pass has influenced this great tasting karoo gin.

Phantom Gin is handcrafted by expert distillers, Lucy Beard & Leigh Lisk of Hope on Hopkins Distillery in Cape Town. Their gin is described as having a ‘soft enchanting nose with juniper and a unique hint of wood & spice. Sweet nuances of caramalised orange on the smooth palate with a refreshing herbaceous mint aftertaste.’

Die Volstruis gin is infused with only fresh botanicals like wild pepper and vanilla from Madagascar and locally sourced fresh green Granny Smith apples.
A fresh smooth taste filled with flavour and spice making you want to take another sip. Don’t be scared to add a basil leaf, cinnamon bark or a slice of orange and curry leaf.
Rhino Beetle Gin
Handcrafted in the heart of Limpopo province using only the finest local botanicals gives Rhino Beetle Gin a smooth, delicate finish and is best enjoyed with a classic tonic.
Their exciting range includes Raspberry & Indigenous Flowers , Strawberry & Mango , Lemon Twist , Blueberry , Lavender , Turkish Delight and Elder Flower.
Come and meet the makers at the 2019 Lowveld Gin Festival and find out why their Turkish Delight is such a favorite amongst their fans!

Although the gin tasting is reserved for adults only, this doesn’t mean the festival isn’t kid friendly.

At the festival, alongside a thrilling lineup of over 20 distilleries – you will also be spoilt for choice with live music and local artists.
